MOVIE REVIEW: THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU

The first quarter of 2011 has been generally a down season for US box office with lackluster ticket sales and mediocre performances for most of the films shown. But it does not mean that there were no good ones shown.

One of which is "The Adjustment Bureau". The film brightly combines the elements of science fiction, thriller/suspense and love story in one. Matt Damon aptly plays David Norris a politician who got entangled in this bizaare world of fiction and love. He must now not only fight for his prestige, credibility and life but also fight for his love. Emily Blunt joins the cast and serves as the leading lady to Damon's character. Both were convincing and the sequences were rather riveting and impulsed. But I have a mixed feel on this film. It is like a combination of "The Box" and "Inception" plus a bit of a James Bond feel on it.

The film succeeded in delivering its message that we should fight for our own fates. We are the masters of our lives and only we can do what we truly want. It is not for someone to decide on what we choose and what we venture into. Fight for what you really want and see what's after that.

The Adjustment Bureau was nice although not spectacular. 4 out of 5 popcorns.

CONFESSIONS IS 8 MONTHS OLD! YIPEE!

It all started one day when I had nothing to do - no job yet, no activities, no one texting or calling.

And so I grabbed my pen and notebook and scribbled some ideas. What to write? How to call them... And then I made outlines and drafts. Wow! I never thought I would have my writing self awakened again. I love a lot of things. From movies, travel, food, guys, girls, sports and a whole bunch of stuff. It was early 2009 since I last wrote and it was August 2010 when I got back into writing.

And how time really flies. It has been 8 months already since I started writing once more. And my blog has somehow become a regular fixture in my daily life. I thank all the people who continuously read on my blog and share their thoughts. My initial plan was just have something to put my random ramblings of the mind. I did not think of this to be something that could reach people from different places. Surprisingly I have readers from all across the globe - representing different culture, personalities, age, gender and sexual preferences.

To my readers, thanks a lot! Keep on reading and I'll be more than willing to continue writing for you.

Christian Tattoos

Christian TattoosDoesn't the Bible forbid Tattoos? In the Leviticus section of the Bible, you will find a passage that sometimes says something about not making marks on the flesh, and sometimes outright says "no tattooing." It will depend on the modernity of the translation. However the idea is pretty much the same, and it's a seriously debated point amongst those who are strongly religious.

IT'S REALLY YOU

We had a fight... Thought it was the end of the world...

I left the house immediately and begun searching. Where should I start? Is there any way I can stop the pain? I am hurt that night and all I could do is walk and breathe... walk and breathe... walk and breathe.... It was like my brain was not functioning anymore yet I can feel the rush of blood into my brain and the plunge and height of every heart beat. we have never fought like this before. It was like the end of the world for me.

The night passed and still I can't find a place to sleep. I was just sitting at a cafe while staring at the blankness. I knew there were a lot of people but I did not feel any of them. Numbness embraces me like I never had any emotions. Tears were just falling and I can't tell them to stop.

The night ended with me not sleeping by a bit. The rays of the sun welcomed me yet I feel empty and not ready for the new day. No calls, no texts... Nothing.... I felt alone for the first time in my life. Never thought that what we have would just end like that.

And then, the afternoon came and a text message greeted me with much delight. "Can we talk?", says the message. Without hesitation I said yes. My heart was pounding while waiting for our meeting. Then, slowly coming from afar, there he was. And when we met, simple words came out of his mouth. "Sorry." "I'm sad without you." "I don't want us to fight again." And my heart just crumbled. It's really YOU.

WONDER WOMAN IS HOT

Never mind the issue with the initial costume of Wonder Woman. In both her old and new outfits, all I can say is she is smoking hot. Adrianne Palicki is the one tapped to don the new tights for the amazon princess and I think she fits the role to a T.

The new show will premiere in NBC this fall. And if the initial reactions and web buzz is to be considered, I think, Wonder Woman would be a cult favorite. Well, let's just wait and see if WW can sure whip some ass. I'm excited for the show to arrive in the Philippines as well.

Simple Pages in a Flash for a Multi Scrap Page Event

Today I want to share the idea of using simple layouts to help you deal with a multi-page scrapping event.  As part of my 50th birthday celebration last year we went to the Aiken Spring Steeplechase on my actual birthday.  After the Steeplechase we had friends over for a party picnic/party with games.  It was a wonderful birthday!  But scrapping the day took many pages.  I had the elements of the Steeplechase as well as outdoor and inside photos from the evening.   I had previously scrapped four pages of of the evening party, but I had not yet attempted to scrap the Steeplechase.

I began by dividing the photos and memorabilia into categories:  Intro, family and friends, carriage parade, and Steeplechasing.  I combined the memorabilia with two photobooth looking photo strips and a photo of a single horse and rider.  I used two coordinating pieces of black and white print cardstock, white cardstock matting, and a white pen for doodling and created the first two pages.

Above, I had saved an extra copy of the invitations we sent to family and friends to join us at the Steeplechase, matted it on white cardstock, and combined with the photo strips to create an intro page.

Page two includes my admission badge from the event, the actual event program, a single rider photo, and bit of ribbon and a cardstock sticker.  Easy peasy yet nice looking.  The print cardstock was a great touch.

Pages three and four contain five of my favorite photos from the many taken during the carriage parade.  HINT:  Do not feel like you MUST use every photo.  You can select photos to represent the event/location (I chose my favorite of the Grand Canyon too, and did not scrap all 70+ photos).  The largest of the photos is a 5x7, three are 4x6's, and the smaller photo is 2.5x6 inches.

I chose a simple black cardstock background and cut a single sheet of traditional equestrian looking plaid paper in half to decorate the page.  I chose a pale yellow color from the plaid and matted the five photos on yellow.  I added chipboard brackets and a chipboard sticker, along with layered flowers.  Again, simple and easy - let the focus be on the photos.

Pages five and six were the easiest.  I had enlarges some of my photos to show details of the event.  I had four photos - an 8x10, a 5x7, a 10x4, and a 4x6.    I matted the photos on white and light blue cardstock.  The 8x10 and a title fill the first page - with a "take the jump" sticker.

Page six is a bit crowded, but I did not want to spread the "Chasing" photos over another two pages... So I squeezed it all in.  I have very few embellishments, again, because the photos are the focal point.  I felt that too many embellies distracted from the photos.

Pages seven and eight are the final two Steeplechase pages - family and friends.  And while I added a little detail to these pages, again they were quite simple.  The pages were created with a speckled navy blue cardstock base, a sheet of blue and green print cut in half, and a blue and white print.  I picked up on the green in the print to use as base matting.

The letters were cut from the M.S. Seasonal Art cartridge.  And the final embellishments were the layered flowers, in blues and whites.

And that is how you make eight quick pages of the same event using a limited number of photos to represent the overall event.  I broke the event down into phases - and scrapped two simple pages for each of the four phases.

Tomorrow I will be announcing the winner of the Custom Crops gift voucher - Not an April fool's joke!!!

This item is a great value and a wonderful starting place for beginners, however i will say the video is a joke HORRID!! but good for a laugh. the ink is a joke as well...but no worries there you can use it on your practice skin. there have been some issues reported with the power supply however mine seems to be fine. the guns are very good for the price nice weight tho some may find them heavy i like them, lots of needles to play with..and lots of goodies to get you started. i very much recommend this kit for starters with separate ink and you tube videos and a bottle of green soap you will be inking yourself and friends in no time flat....enjoy

Choosing your Tattoo Parlor What to watch out for

Choosing your Tattoo Parlor What to watch out for

Once you have made the decision to get a tattoo you'll need to find a qualified tattoo parlor. This is a very important decision, as it can easily make or break your tattoo. Before you decide on a tattoo artist or tattoo parlor, you must first see if they are qualified. There are hundreds of thousands of tattoo parlors out there, some better than others. If you go to a less than perfect tattoo parlor, you could very well end up with an infection that can cause you more trouble than you ever thought possible. Finding out how long a parlor has been in business is very important - as this will tell you how much business the parlor receives.

When you look for the best parlor you should always watch for those who have the best history with keeping their equipment clean. Clean equipment and a clean studio is without a doubt the most important consideration when dealing with tattoos. If the artist isn't licensed or not a professional there will be little to no guarantee that the equipment is clean. Health is a big concern with tattoos for most people, and for good reason. If you are looking to get a tattoo you should always make sure that the artists are licensed, the parlor is clean - and the equipment is sanitized and cleaned after each and every tattoo.

The best tattoo parlors will welcome you in with open arms, anticipating your business. When you meet the tattoo artist, he should be friendly and not intimidate you at all, nor should he at any time attempt to push a design on you. Under no circumstances should the artist try and talk you into getting a more expensive tattoo design if all you want is something small and simple.

Pushy sales and unfriendly salesmen are common pitfalls with most businesses. Tattoo parlors should always be friendly and open to what you want. Although the more experienced tattoo artists will offer their opinions, they shouldn't try to push you around. If a tattoo artists thinks there will be a problem with your design or if he thinks he can do anything to improve it, he will more than likely let you know. If he is able to save you some money, the higher quality tattoo artists won't think twice about doing so.

Before you decide on a tattoo parlor to do your tattoo, you should always compare what's available to you and weigh out your options. The higher quality tattoo parlors will cost quite a bit of money, more than the other parlors. This is to be expected, as the higher quality studios cost more to pay their artists and keep their parlor nice and clean. These parlors are among the best in the world, with sparkling floors and a clean interior. The tattoo artists here ensure that their rooms are clean, with most wiping down their equipment and materials every chance they get.

The ideal way to find tattoo parlors in your area or close by is to use the Internet and search or just open a local phone book. If you look for the keyword tattoos, you'll find several that are relatively close to you. Once you have found some addresses, simply drive out there and take a look around. If you like what you see, you can always come back. You shouldn't rush your decision - but instead look at what each tattoo parlor has to offer you.

Garden Pots Inside

After planting a few little pots for my garden table on the weekend I have been thinking I might do a few more so that I can bring some inside to put on the table in our lounge room or to place down the centre of the dining table when we have people over for dinner.  I also love how they are placed on the bench in the bathroom I have posted above.  I think it would be a nice idea to find an old rack with perforated shelves {like Brooke's} so that I can store lots of potted up succulents and also my potted bulbs and herbs in the garden near our garden shed.  Lots to do!!

PS.  If anyone is wanting to plant up some of these traditional little terracotta pots, I purchased mine from Bunnings.  I think they were approximately $2.50 per pot.  And if you live in Brisbane and want to purchase some bulbs then head to Bunnings as well.  Bulbs can be a bit tricky to buy here in Brisbane due to them not really liking our climate.   Oh and one more thing, if you want to plant some sweet peas you need to get them in this week if you live here!!  Mine were planted yesterday.  I can't wait to see them grow and flower over the coming weeks.

PPS. I only know these things about when to plant etc. thanks to Merve, Uncle Robbie, my mother, my grandmother and the lovely man at Bunnings who is my new best friend.  What would I do without them!!

Layouts, Layouts, Layouts... And I am still behind.

I love the saying, "God put me on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I am so far behind that I will never die." (Bill Watterson)  That saying applies to me and my actual scrapbooking - in other words - LAYOUTS.  I have quite a number of photos that I have never gotten around to scrapping.

This last weekend I had the pleasure of spending three days scrapping at Lake Murray - thank you Beth and Sally.  I managed to complete 21 12x12 layouts (one of which was Buzz Lightyear).  To give you an idea of how far behind I am, I found photos from Christmas 2009 and photos from my birthday last year.  I had scrapped part of the photos, but not all.

In honor of my 50th birthday last year, my girlfriends had a birthday crop for me.  It was so fun - good friends, good food, doing what we like to do!    I had scrapped some of the birthday photos, but not all.  This is a scraptique kit modified (or as I say, "Susanized") to fit the photos.

The two page layout utilizes Teresa Collins papers - lots of pink, white and black.  And of course lots of textile textures.

I love the elements on the right page, the three file folders.  Each of the three folders opens to reveal hidden information.  The smaller two folder contain the journaling.  The larger folder contains the photo below.

If you have not already  done so be sure to leave a comment under the previous post to be elegible for the Custom Crops gift voucher blog candy.  The winner will be posted on Friday.

Tomorrow I will share how simple layouts can help you deal with multi page scrap events, while still looking nice.

NATION MOURNS OVER FILIPINO EXECUTION IN CHINA

The whole nation mourns over the execution via lethal injection of 3 Filipinos in China. The three -- Ramon Credo, 42, Sally Villanueva, 32, and Elizabeth Batain, 38 -- were arrested separately in China in 2008 for smuggling heroin and sentenced to death.

The execution made by the Chinese government has drawn several reactions from different set of people citing the Philippine government as not doing much to save their lives. The Catholic church and Amnesty International has both been very vocal of their disappointment with the Aquino administration. But while saving the lives of these Filipinos seem to be task, ket us not forget that they did something bad as well and they did it on a foreign land. We can't expect the government to flex its muscles and get in the way of anothe nation's legislation and laws.

What we can do now is to remember that wherever we are, we should always put in mind to do only what's just and what's right. But as for these 3 souls, all we can do is pray for them and their families.
