The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Alexander McQueen

The first time I ever walked into an actual Alexander McQueen store: August 4, 2009.  I was shopping in Las Vegas and was so inspired that I actually ran out of the store into the casino, sat down, started sketching designs and tweeted THIS.

I was so inspired by every single piece - I wanted to buy them all, make them all, and sketch them all! This is probably the only time I've felt so inspired just by walking around and looking at clothes! (By the way, the "lala, fashion consultant" person I refer to in the tweet is my good friend Laura. I knew she would understand my extreme moment of fashion clarity!!)

Almost 2 years later, I am thrilled to hopefully be attending The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Exhibit this summer!

Many of you have probably seen me tweeting about this exhibit, and I'm getting so excited to go that I thought I should do some research for you guys in case you wanted to go too!

The Details:
  • General admission tickets are $20 and include admission to this and all exhibits.  You can purchase online here
  • The Met recommends coming in the morning or on weekdays to avoid longer lines.  (Note: The attendance for this exhibit has been record breaking - the wait sometimes is very long.)
  • This exhibit closes July 31, so you may want to book your flight soon!

Can't make the exhibit but dying to see what it's all about?  This book  chronicles the most "iconic and radical" designs of Alexander McQueen's career.

If anyone goes, please let me know! I can't wait to hear what you think!

Royal Wedding Countdown! Kate Middleton Hat Obsession

By Tiffany Olson

With the Royal Wedding a mere 3 days away, I have no choice but to document some of my favorite Kate Middleton hats and fascinators. The feathers, the flowers, the lace... chic, stylish, and sooo Royal!

(And it just so happens that the Kentucky Derby is also right around the corner. Double the dose of hat obsession!!!)

5. This big black saucer of a hat was worn to a 2010 wedding

4. Kate stepped out of her normal routine with this bright red fascinator, worn to a 2010 wedding.

3. This pastel hat went perfectly with her outfit at a 2009 wedding.

2. I absolutely adore this feather fascinator she wore at her first Royal duty in February of this year.

1. This is my all time favorite Kate fascinator!! Anyone who can wear this ridiculous feather piece and look good doing it deserves some recognition. She wore this all the way back in 2006 to a wedding.

I plan on wearing the biggest feather fascinator I can find on April 29. All day. While I'm in New York. (Those tweets will be fun. Make sure to follow me at @cupcakeMAG_Tiff while I frolick around the city trying to find the best Royal parties.)

Spring 2011: FAB Shoes Galore!

We know diamonds are a girl's best friend, but shoes have to be a very close second, right?

I've ran across several new shoes out for spring that I am in love with and I thought I'd share!!  Did you know UGG makes sandals now??  Comfort + Adorable? Why yes, thank you!  Of course, I'd sacrifice comfort for the Christian Louboutin Madame Butterfly Pumps (below) but that's a given....

Enjoy!

NYFW FAVE: Carlos Miele Fall 2011

We can sum up Carlos Miele's Fall 2011 collection in 2 words: luxurious and glamorous.  (And when we say glamorous, we don't mean that song "G-L-A-M-O-R-OUS", we mean luxe, elaborate, possibly dripping in diamonds, glamorous.)

The show featured draping fabrics, pops of color, and lush fabrics in rich textures.  Braiding, ruching, intricate beading... it was all in this collection.  These are the kind of dresses that make a woman float, no matter how graceful she actually is.  Feminine yet vibrant looks tend to be the mainstay for most Carlos Miele collections - a combination we have to agree is brilliant.  Clean, simple hair and makeup gave the clothes the center stage.

Our favorite looks were actually the jumpsuits.  We can see Olivia Palermo running around NYC in the one of these jumpsuits with the head scarf to match.
