Van Gogh inspiring Fashion Trends?

By Lauren Gonzalez

First of all, I want to say hello!! You haven’t heard from me before, but I am a new contributing writer and thrilled to be joining such a fabulous staff and all of you on our journey through life, fashion and the other thing we love!

I must confess, I feel very at home when I visit my family in New York and New Jersey. I was flipping through some pictures from a visit two years ago, and saw that I only took one picture while at The Met. It was “Olive Trees” by Vincent Van Gogh. I am a huge fan of Impressionist, such as Van Gogh. The fluidity and color palette of this painting really struck a chord with me. I remember it well! I was so entranced by this one work that it cancelled out all the other marvelous works of art in the room!

I’ve now been re-inspired by this painting, as I look back at it. I can’t help but see so many parallels in fashion today. Whether it’s simply the colors or the construction, here are some pieces that remind me of one of favorite paintings.

  1. Linea Pelle “Parker Croco Tote”   2. Diane Von Furstenberg “Brennah Scarf in Cool Neon Mane”   3. Coach “Brynne Heel”   4. Essie “Coat Azure”   5. MICHAEL Michael Kors “Jet Set Crossbody in Tie-Dye Denim”   6. Alexis Bittar “Gold Studden Hinge Cuff
I absolutely love these finds, especially the dresses! I would consider myself a “dress girl” considering they are what I wear most of the time. The outfits I found that best show the gorgeous colors and texture of “Olive Trees” are following:
  1. DKNY “Sleeveless V-Neck Dress with Tiered Ruffle Skirt in Lagoon”   2. Lilly Pulitzer “Shauna Dress Embroidered in Navy”   3. Rachel Zoe Fall 2011 Ready-To-Wear   4. Diane Von Furstenberg “Parlian Dress in Midnight”

Lastly, I leave you with my final and favorite pick. This is a serious piece of jewelry. A bold statement, and in fact, quite like wearing art. It’s the Alexis Bittar “Modern Georgian  Cuff” The color and cut of the stones are beautiful. This is a great statement piece that truly speaks for itself - all you have to do is wave or pretend you’re fixing your hair!

That wraps up my Van Gogh inspired picks. I think, if we clothes ourselves with confidence and the right look, fashion really is noticed as art.

Home for the Holidays

By: Candace Cabrera Moore Contributing Writer/Fashion Week Correspondent

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it is time to hit the racks and find something festive to wear! You'll want to look your best for those impromptu photo shoots that inevitably happen at family get-togethers, but for a holiday that is dominated by food, you'll definitely want something that will be comfortable so you can eat all you want. Here are two looks we love for Thanksgiving:

Option 1: Look ravishing in red in a long sleeve dress that flows (read: super comfy!). Dress it up with a delicate gold necklace as shown and add opaque tights and heels. Buy through Lulus for only $34.00 http://www.lulus.com/products/mind-bow-gling-red-dress/30807.html

Option 2: Stay casual yet chic in this long sleeve sweater dress with pleated shoulder detailing. Wear with high boots with a stacked heel to dress it up, and finish it off with colorful earrings for a pop of color. Buy through shopbop for $138 http://www.shopbop.com/sweater-dress-bop-basics/vp/v=1/845524441878405.htm?fm=search-viewall-shopbysize

Over-The-Knee Fabulosity

By: Candace Cabrera Moore Contributing Writer/Fashion Week Correspondent

These Stuart Weitzman boots leave my heart skipping beats. As a vertically challenged person, it's been hard for me to find the highly sought after OTK boot that's been so hot this season. Because I'm so short, I find that most of the OTK's go wayyy too high. This boot looks just right for me, and for any petite girl, as it hits just above the knee cap, keeping the look simple and clean. I love the platform and the sky high heel. I'd wear them over jeggings and a long tunic sweater. Instant warmth and style!

Heading Out in Classic Camel

By Candace Cabrera Moore - Contributing Writer/Fashion Week Correspondent

Switching out fall's dark colors for neutral shades of classic camel can be a welcome change. The warm, buttery color is a great alternative to drab grey pieces or black staples we usually see for fall. The best part about this neutral color is that while it is currently trendy, it is actually nothing new. Camel has always been a very classic color. You could do head to toe hues of camel (think dark, caramel colored, wide leg, high-waist wool pants, with a cognac belt and a fitted, light camel, long-sleeved tee), or you could incorporate camel colored accessories as a contrast to classic black. This is an elegant look that is here to stay!

Pretty Panchos

Besides the gorgeous foliage and the impending Halloween candy consumption, another reason I look forward to fall is outwear. A big trend this season is the poncho. Easy to wear, and goes with everything, the poncho is a great go-to piece to throw on before you walk out the door. Choose a subtle black or grey if you're not too sure of the trend, or go big and bold with a bright print if you're ready to embrace it with open arms! The options out there are endless.

Fashion Tip: If you are petite like me, and are scared of being swallowed up by the poncho, belt it to give yourself definition at the waist, and keep the rest of the outfit simple (think skinnies or leggings and knee high boots). This is a great staple to any fall wardrobe!

Lovin' The Lace-Up Bootie

By Candace Cabrera Moore, Fashion Corespondent

With the air getting a bit chillier and the leaves starting to change, we are reminded that fall is underway and this season it is all about the boots. There are so many trends right now for fall footwear but my current obsession is with lace up booties with a covered platform heel. The lace-up look is a new twist on the current military inspired trend we've been seeing for fall, and the platform heel gives it an extra feminine touch. What I love most about the booties is their versatility. Wear them with opaque tights and a mini skirt for a date night look or rock 'em with skinny jeans and a blazer for running errands around town! With clear wearability from day to night, what's not to love?!

And in two different price points!

Forever 21, $32.80

Endless, $241.68

Trend Report -- Denim Shirts

By Danielle Downing Pagett, Contributing Writer

You see them over shorts, under coats, layered as cardigans, tucked into pants, over sundresses, jean on jean, wear them summer or fall.
Wear it like a boyfriend shirt a little over sized or a little more sophisticated tucked into
your favorite skirt or pants.

Wear it a little rugged or like a uptown chic.
Be sure to incorporate this piece into your wardrobe with your already great staple items.
Anyone can wear this trend. Do not be scared by it. It is fun and easy to pull it off!

Here is my favorite best buy denim shirt:

on the radar -- leopard print!

One of this season’s key trends is the most important print this fall… LEOPARD! Yes, it's back and in full force. Every fashion designer has been using it in their collections this season. The print has been seen in skirts, dresses, pants, coats, handbags, belts, heels, scarves, you name it, it’s out there. With this fierce print you can always make a wardrobe statement. But remember in order to make a wardrobe statement with this print less is always more.
